Things to Do in the Area

Never been to Surfside Beach? There is plenty to do!

While the beach is obviously the number one reason to come to Surfside Beach, there is lots more to do in the area.  Below is our list of area attractions and things to do.

At a high level you can go to VisitSurfsideBeachTX.org or check out our short list below with some added area attractions.

  • Surfing - You guessed it, Surfside is known for having the best waves on the northern Texas coast due to the deep water only being 8 miles off shore. Take a short 5 minute walk down Texas Street from the house straight out to the best surf in the area. Bring your own board or take lessons from the School of Surf - SchoolofSurfside.com

  • Fishing - Fish from the jetty, the beach or take a deep sea charter. For charters, visit FishingBooker.com to find a ride or bring your poles and hit the jetty a short 1/2 mile walk from Mint To Be.

  • Boating - The public boat ramp to the Freeport Channel is a 1/4 mile from Mint To Be just up Thunder Road (at the end of our block). It has restrooms and fish cleaning stations and is free to use.

  • Fort Velasco - Known as the cradle of Texas, this historic site is where Stephen F. Austin first arrived in Texas and where the first battle of Texas’ war for independence took place in 1832. The Fort site is a 1/4 mile from Mint To Be.

  • Bird and Butterfly Trail - Surfside beach was awarded Bird City status by the Texas Parks and Wildlife due to this professionally designed 2.5 mile trail along the ship channel. Also located 1/4 mile from Mint To Be next to the historic Fort Velasco site.

  • Crocodile Encounter - Known as the Croc Capital of Texas, this place is one of the best kept secrets on the coast. Located just 30 minutes up the road from Mint To Be in Angleton, it gets you up close and personal with crocs at this nationally recognized crocodilian center.

  • Moody Gardens - Looking for something more touristy? A 45 minute scenic drive down Bluewater Highway leads you to Moody Gardens where you can explore everything this center has to offer.
